Red Eléctrica believes it is feasible to lay an independent energy cable between the Iberian Peninsula and Morocco, connecting Tarifa in Cádiz, southern Spain, with Fardioua in North Africa.

The study carried out by the Spanish company states that the work would cost approximately €48 million and would run parallel to the first connection in the Strait of Gibraltar, reports the Spanish newspaper Cinco Días.

The interconnection consists of three cables, which together with the four from the first connection, would increase the exchange capacity between the two continents to approximately 1,400 megawatts.

Foreign sales by the group account for 69% of its total and it has a presence in more than 140 countries.
